Pet Flea & Tick Info

Thinking about bringing your pet to our cottage? We’d love to host you — and we want your furry family member to be safe and comfortable while you’re here.

Youngstown is surrounded by wooded areas and has an abundant deer population, so ticks and fleas are common, especially in warmer months. Our property also sits along a natural path for wildlife moving between the woods and the park.

We recommend prevention before your visit

While it’s not required, we strongly recommend treating your pet with a vet-approved flea and tick preventative prior to your stay. Preventatives are the best defense and can help avoid discomfort (and an unpleasant surprise when you get home).

Leashes required for safety

For your pet’s safety, leashes are required outdoors. Wildlife is active in the area, including coyotes, and leashing helps prevent unwanted encounters.

Quick tips during your stay

  • Do a fast tick check after walks (ears, neck, legs, belly).

  • Avoid tall grass and brushy edges near the woods.

  • If you find a tick, remove it promptly with tweezers or a tick remover.
